About

Healthcare is the general expression used for the entire area of prevention, intervention and cure of illness and disease using the facilities of medical experts and resources. Although The World Health Organization would like to see the term extended to include all people whether an individual or whole populations. Any collective group of medical professionals and facilities dedicated to providing this would be termed a healthcare system. Be physically active for 30-60 minutes most days of the week and use the food guide pyramid to judge your food choices. Explore your emotional, social, mental, and spiritual health nutrition as well.

The expression healthcare has not always been used though and prior to this is it was often just referred to medicine or the health sector but this was utilized more by English speaking countries. Around the world today, most nations have a system in place to ensure that everyone receives healthcare irrespective of their social standing or financial situation. Of course the first country wide health care service started in the UK in 1948 and was called The National Health Service being the first to be organized and funded by the government.

In Italy, they have a system that works by making everyone pay into a administration funded insurance scheme which The World Health Organization consider the second best health care system in the world. This type of system has been copied to a degree in both Australia and Canada where it is called by the same name of Medicare. These systems are almost opposite to the systems presently provided in American and South Africa although there are huge changes taking place in the system used by South Africa. people who work in healthcare include all professionals whose job it is to preserve life, treat and cure illness and try to improve the health of individuals. The collective term for this is the health care industry but the word industry may not necessarily be the best one to use.

Over a relatively short period of time, the healthcare industry has become one of the fastest expanding in the world with an average growth rate of just over ten percent of the gross domestic product of many developed countries and is still growing, playing a huge role in the domestic economies of most countries. The only world nation to differ is The USA with over fifteen percent according to figures published in 2003 but it is set to rise to almost twenty percent by the year 2016.

In The United States there are one hundred eighty million Americans who want health care and a recent study showed that it was the number one concern of those seeking work. The steep rises in the health care system in The United States almost contributed to the bankruptcy of the giant car manufacturer General motors. Luckily it didn’t happen after some concessions and compromises made with the unions but it does show how something like this can have an effect on even the largest of companies.

The American health care system costs a great deal to employers but it is the number one thing that potential workers look for in an employer and has seen many shifts in how individuals view working for any given company. Perhaps the situation needs to be looked at from a different angle, one in which individuals are encouraged to stay fit and healthy as societies in general see a decline in the health of its populations.
